The Architect defines the structure of the hardware and/or software subsystems that is to be developed and also defines the way in which it has to be divided into separate components and/or modules. In doing so, functionary proceeds on the basis of the functional specifications. Functionary comes to an understanding with software resp. hardware development concerning the hardware/software interfaces. By means of planned reviews he/she ensures — from technical point of view — that the efforts of the individual developers remain focused on properly functioning subsystems. Functionary is technically responsible for the correct functioning of the integrated subsystems. Functionary co-operates with the project manager, test&release architect and the quality officer, ensuring that the hardware resp. software development process runs optimally. • Number of projects per year: 1-3. • Average project costs: ± 2 M Euro. • Responsible for the architecture of subsystems or medium projects. • Participates in the system architecture and the definition of the reuiqrements specification. • Supervises HW/SW Developers. • Advises HW/SW Project Leader.
Key areas of responsibility • Responsible for the creation of the (hardware or software) architecture in modular, easy to maintain and extendible parts (components and modules). • Technically responsible for the (hardware or software in (sub-)projects. • Responsible for the integration of hardware resp. software. • Ensures the mutual consistency and efficient integration of the separate components in modular, easy-to-maintain hardware/software that meets the product specification. • Acts in line with departmental and project processes. • Guides the Development Engineers in the design and implementation of the parts of a subsystem. • Advises the System Architect regarding choices of what has to be achieved in hardware and what in software, and advises on make-or-buy decisions. • Determines required hardware/software interface in close consultation with the technical experts. • Advises on internal development or outsourcing. • Has an important say in the choice of development environment and has ultimate responsibility for the (hardware/software) top-level design. • Is abreast of / participates in standards.
Main experience required • Experience in the design and implementation of hardware resp. software systems of at least 4 years. • Knowledge of and experience in hardware/software interfaces. • Knowledge of and experience in standards and external developments. • Experience in working in project teams.
Necessary know how / skills • University education in relevant technical (hardware/software) engineering or other related discipline. • Knowledge and understanding of other disciplines with which co-operation takes place. • Specific knowledge of the relevant area of application. • Specific knowledge of relevant design methods, such as modelling. • Knowledge of (software) engineering processes. • Coaching skills.
Required personality • Abstract, analytical, and creative thinker.
Required personality characteristics • Lateral thinker with helicopter view, capable of finding an appropriate solution to complex problems. • Networks with colleagues. • Is communicative and a good listener. • Is ready to look at more than one solution, and can put ideas across. • Improvement attitude. |
